This year our edVenture studies have taken students outside the traditional classroom to experience hands-on learning.
The McMaster Leadership course, CPR training, Golf lessons at Hidden Lake Golf Course, Overnight camping on the property of BCA, Photography and Photo manipulation, Animation instruction, Toyota Canada tour, Rock Climbing, a visit to the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Science of Baking, Christmas greeting card project, Computer Construction, Tennis, Badminton, Racquetball and Squash instruction, SPCA tour, Bowling at Burlington Bowl, Media Studies unit – Billboard Design, Cartooning, AGO tour, Swimming at Aldershot Pool, Movie making, Hiking, and Ultimate Frisbee.
In addition students were involved in community service projects. They worked at Sew on Fire Mission preparing gift bags to be distributed in 3rd world countries. At Christmas time, students baked goodies and delivered them to Mission Services of Hamilton to distribute to those in need. They contributed to a community food drive.
This year, I am in the process of trying to add a scrapbooking component as well as a canoe trip and some set design, lighting and sound components to tie into the TCAP program. We will be dovetailing with this program and the ALPA program in order to unify our school’s upper end and save on bus costs.
