Two individuals who had both an educational and a medical background originally designed the Discovery Program, now the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD) Program.

Christian school educators at Norfolk Christian School in Virginia first implemented this innovative program. It is now being used in numerous Christian schools throughout the United States, Canada, and various foreign countries.

Individual Therapy Program

Therapy is hard work, but the benefits are numerous and far-reaching. Some benefits may be seen quickly, other benefits may take longer to appear. The accomplishments made in therapy and the increased self-esteem often leads to increased self-confidence. This in turn enables the child to grow academically, socially, and spiritually. In order for the Educational Therapy program be successful for your child, you as parents must play a pivotal role in your child’s therapy (as outlined in the Parent Agreement).

1. You must be trained on all pages of Rhythmic Writing so that you may assist your child at home. Bring the Parent Handbook with you to observation sessions so that you can refer to the Rhythmic Writing instruction pages.

2. We encourage all parents to observe sessions on a regular basis.

3. It is most beneficial for the child if you supervise Rhythmic Writing four days per week at home. You must also ensure that your child completes each individual aspect of homework satisfactorily.

Resource

Burlington Christian Academy is proud to offer the Resource Program to families who have children with learning challenges. Your child is an amazing creation and completely unique in his or her learning style, personality, and needs. If it is established that your child requires extra assistance with classroom work, or has been formally identified with an exceptionality, then they may require an IEP (Individual Education Plan). Our Resource Teachers will work in conjunction with parents and staff to create a program which addresses and meets your child’s individual needs.

When needed, children with IEP’s will follow an accommodated program within the classroom. If they require a modified program (curriculum goals below their grade level) then they may be withdrawn for certain periods. The number of periods for withdrawal is variable and will be determined through consultation between resource staff and the classroom teacher. Our goal in this arm of the Discovery Program is to address these kinds of needs, come up with a viable game plan, and work towards facilitating successful growth in each student, academically, socially and spiritually.
